William Cadenhead

William C. M. Cadenhead D.A Cert RAS  1934 - 2005

Born in Aberdeen, Cadenhead came to live in his mother's native town of Forfar at the start of the Second World War then went on to spend his early teen-age years in Glen Isla.

He studied at the Dundee College of Art (which then became Duncan of Jordanston Collage of Art) and later at the Royal Academy Schools in London then took up a career as a professional artist combining painting with teaching ,ultimately becoming a senior lecturer at his former college.

Although he chose, or was commissioned, to paint a wide range of subjects, Cadenhead's formative years in Glen Isla were a lasting influence. He was continually drawn to the hills of Angus and particularly to Glen Clova. His paintings of Glen Clova and Glen Doll depict the area in summer and winter and in different kinds of light and were executed on site... in summer rain or winter snow!

In the artist's own words:

"Most of my work is produced on location in response to transient effects of light and weather, presenting individual mountain groups in the hinterland of the Angus glens".
